The Will to Adapt: The Post 2008 US Economic Crisis and its Impact on Refugee Resettlement in the United States

The U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program provides refugees with a patchwork of social services for their first 30-120 days in the U.S. The pressure to become economically independent after these 120 days has increased as the United States economic crisis strains resources that were once available to pave the road to selfsufficiency. This thesis examines how Iraqi and Karen refugees use their own social and human capital to achieve or not achieve self-sufficiency in the United States in the wake of the economic crisis.
