Caroline Park Artist Talk
Thursday, September 17, 2015
Ammerman Center House - 768 Williams Street
12 p.m.
Keywords: Race, Gender, Performance, Electronic Music, Experimentalism
Psychological, glimmering, translucent, semiliquid, luminous, droning, ominous, distant, hypnagogic -- all point towards an idea that hints beyond reach, beyond containment, and beyond perceived function. Park will discuss and demonstrate her creative work as experimental and emergent embodiment, a sub/conscious self-shaping from daily racial and feminist experience and questioning in order to reclaim and redefine what it means to be human.
Caroline Park is a composer, musician, and artist who works primarily within the minimum in experimental electronic music. As a composer-performer, she has shared the stage with Mem1, Steve Roden, a canary torsi, Evidence, Dollshot, and Arnold Dreyblatt with performances at the New Museum, the Stone, Machines With Magnets, AS220, Goethe-Institut Boston, and Jordan Hall. She is a founding member of OPENSIGNAL, a group of artists concerned with the state of gender and race within electronic and computer-based art practices. Park lives in Providence, RI.
