Irene Hatch has been sewing since she was ten and working in theatre since she discovered the costume shop during her freshman year of college. She’s worked on numerous regional theatre productions in the New England area as both a Costume Technician and Designer, and has also served as an adjunct professor at WCSU. Her 2015 costumes for WCSU’s production of Parade received a national Distinguished Costume Design award from KCACTF. She’s also been lucky enough to stitch costumes for all five US productions of the hit musical, Hamilton while working for Roberta Hamelin Costumes in Durham, CT, in addition to several beautiful costumes for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Broadway).
Irene was a guest draper at Connecticut College this past spring for the Theater Department’s production of Into the Woods.
When she’s not working on costumes, Irene delivers babies as a nurse assistant and OB scrub tech in the labor and delivery department and runs a fabric thrift store out of her garage (www.timewarptextiles.com). It’s an odd mix, but it seems to work somehow.
Irene holds an MFA in Costume Design from Indiana University in Bloomington.
