I have always been fascinated by the performing arts and credit this interest to my early exposure to theater, opera, and dance in the culturally rich city of Berlin. Although actively involved in theater throughout my high school and undergraduate careers, it wasn’t until I took my first costume history course in graduate school that I knew I wanted to pursue a career in costume design. This transformational course opened my eyes to the rich and nuanced language of dress and the inextricable links between fashion and the zeitgeist of an era. Twenty years later, I find that I am still curious and energized by the psychology and storytelling power of costume.
