Connecticut College and Hartford HealthCare Partner to Enhance Student Health Services and Sports Medicine
Connecticut College is proud to announce a new partnership with Hartford HealthCare (HHC) that will offer students access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services across the HHC system.
Beginning in August, HHC will provide on-campus medical services at the College, through its departments of Student Health Services and Sports Medicine. Students will have access to a network of more than 1,000 physicians and specialists offering expanded services, increased hours and an integrated, state-of-the-art medical records system.
The vision is both to elevate the level of service and to integrate student health and well-being across the College.
In the College’s health center, students will work with a dedicated team of medical personnel from HHC who can, in turn, call on the larger HHC network whenever necessary to refer patients to local and regional physicians specializing in a wide variety of medical sub-disciplines.
HHC athletic trainers and physicians will also serve the College’s student athletes, providing access to a network of orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, concussion experts, and cardiologists—along with sports neurology services at HHC’s Ayer Neuroscience Institute. Consultants in sports nutrition, sports psychology, and athletic performance screening will also be available.
Most important, the HHC partnership will play a critical role at a moment when Connecticut College is investing new resources to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19. HHC clinicians will help Connecticut College staff implement new COVID-19 protocols when students return in the fall, and College staff will also be able to confer with HHC leaders in infectious disease and prevention to monitor and maintain the health of the general college population.
“We are fully dedicated to supporting the students of Connecticut College by providing access to world-class healthcare,” said Jeffrey A. Flaks, President and Chief Executive Officer at Hartford HealthCare. “In the midst of a global pandemic, a partnership like this has never been more critical.”
“We are proud to have formed this partnership with HHC, already well known in Connecticut for their innovative approach to student health and now a leader in pandemic support,” said Katherine Bergeron, President of Connecticut College. “Our shared vision for excellence in campus health, safety, and well-being is ushering in a new era at the College, allowing our students to benefit from the most comprehensive healthcare network in the region.”
Connecticut College will be the newest member of HHC’s Campus Care program, which provides services for more than 8,000 students and 1,300 student athletes on multiple campuses in Connecticut, including Trinity College and the University of Hartford. HHC has recently expanded its operations in southeastern Connecticut, with a new state-of-the art primary care facility in Mystic and another planned for Waterford.
“This new collaboration will elevate our quality of care on campus at a critically important time. I couldn’t be happier with the level of support we will receive from HHC,” said Victor Arcelus, Connecticut College’s Dean of Students.
