The computer science labs here at Connecticut College support exciting and innovative research. Students who are in advanced courses or who are doing research projects have 24/7 access to these labs. Facilities include standard UNIX and PC labs, as well as labs in robotics, multimedia and digital signal processing, and graphics and virtual reality.
Robotics and artificial intelligence lab
A unique space where experimentation in robot construction, cooperation, coordination, and emergent behaviors can take place. The main focus of research is on learning techniques used in artificial intelligence and their application to autonomous agent control.
Facilities include:
- workbenches
- construction tools
- laser cutter
- 3D printer
- robots
- 8x8 foot colony space
Multimedia and signal processing lab
Current research in this lab includes student-faculty projects on audio key finding, tonal representation/analysis, pitch sets, music alignment, virtual reality, and animations in this lab, which is also a part of the Ammerman Center for Arts & Technology.
Facilities include:
- high-end graphics workstations
- head-mounted displays
- force feedback devices
- development environments for multimedia content processing
- software for producing animations
Graphics and virtual reality lab
In this lab, students develop realistic avatars, create visualization environments, design entertainment software, and work on computer graphics and virtual reality.
Facilities include:
- high-end graphics workstations
- 3D trackers
- full-body motion capture system
- touch screen monitors
- wearable computing devices
- 3D camera
- 4.5 x 12 foot 3D visualization wall
